The Best Description of Vocation I've Heard Yet

For years, I have been trying to put into words how so many different careers feel like callings to me and interweave and connect with one another. Today, I came across a quotation from the author Julius Lester that somehow expresses my own vocational statement more perfectly than I've ever been able to and knew I had to share it here.

"There's no question that my writing is part of what you might call my ministry. People say to me that I do so many different things, but to me they are not that different. They are all expressions of the same thing. Writing is a way of praying, and so is teaching. I just love to teach, and teaching is a way of praying. To put it another way, the ideal life is to do those things through which you express Being with a capital B and be paid for it. I'm very lucky and very blessed to be able to do what I do and get paid for it." - Julius Lester from Poets Talk about Faith: A God in the House
